WESTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Police say that a luxury SUV involved in a chase and crash on the Mass Pike in the Boston area had been reported stolen in Holyoke earlier this month.
State Police spokesperson David Procopio notified 22News that Roberto Rivera, 33, of Worcester, was arrested by troopers following the crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to Procopio, around 12:30, troopers received reports of an Acura MDX driving erratically on the eastbound side of the Pike near the Weston Tolls. A trooper who saw the SUV ran the license plate and found that it was reported stolen in Holyoke.
The trooper tried to stop the driver (later identified as Rivera), but he would not pull over, and after a brief chase, he crashed into a Ford TransitConnect van. Rivera was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston with minor injuries to his face (due to the airbag deploying.) The driver of the van was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with minor injuries.
Procopio says that Rivera will face charges in connection with the stolen SUV, as well as for failing to stop for police.
