CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Should you tolerate swearing in the workplace? It could cost you.
57 percent of employers said they would be less likely to promote someone who curses in the office.
More than half of the people in the survey say they curse in front of their boss.
51 percent of workers said they curse at work. And a majority said they do it in front of their co-workers.
Many people told 22News it depends where you work.
Elizabeth Sisk of Holyoke said, “It doesn't bother me because its a generally accepted part of the environment. It helps relieve stress during your work day.”
According to Emily Rodriguez of Chicopee, “If you want to take your job seriously you act appropriately at work and acting appropriately is not swearing at work.”
Swearing is just a way people talk, not being able to express themselves properly.
64 percent of employers said they would think less of an employee who repeatedly swears.
Workers said they are less likely to swear in front of senior leaders and clients, and that's probably a wise course of action.
