WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts families observed “Take Your Child to the Library Day” on Saturday.

This was the second anniversary of the observance.

At the Westfield Athenaeum, parents accompanied their children to see what was good to take home and read. Although Vincent Baker's son is quite young, Baker told 22News, it's never too early to get him familiar with the inside of a library.

“It's very important to read, and also with books it's good to have to process left to right and top to bottom with technology going the way it is, it's important to make sure that books are still an important part of our children's lives,” said Vincent Baker of Westfield.

“Take Your Child to the Library Day” was founded in 2012 by a librarian in Waterford, Connecticut.

It was quickly embraced by the Massachusetts Library Association.
