SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - An alert taxi driver can be thanked for putting an alleged criminal in handcuffs.

Springfield Police Lt. Maurice Kearney told 22News that a taxi driver was driving on Hebron Street in the North End just before 2:30 Tuesday morning, when the driver spotted a man breaking into a car.

The taxi driver allegedly followed the man into Chicopee, where he was arrested in front of the Chicopee Police Station on Church Street.

The suspect was identified as William Goodwin, 40, of Whately.

Goodwin will be arraigned Tuesday on a charge of breaking and entering.
