SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Fat Cat bar in Springfield will begin serving their suspension Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for the next five weeks.
The Fat Cat had been allowed to keep entertainment on until 2am because 40 percent of their gross receipts were received from food. But the food is made next door at Brick City Pizza, and the Fat Cat didn't have the appropriate sublease.
Now the Fat Cat has to exclude the pizzeria from their premises and prove they have a kitchen of their own.
According to Chairman Peter Sygnator of Spfld License Commission, “Subleasing your premises without the permission of the commission and the abcc is a serious violation in our eyes. Had this gone to the state level it would have been a much longer suspension.”
Sygnator told 22news this isn't the commission's first run-in with Fat Cat; they've had a number of meetings over the years and there's always a promise to do better.
We tried to speak with the Fat Cat manager who was there but she refused to comment. They'll meet with the commission again on January 24th.
