WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Each high school student at West Springfield High School had their bags checked before classes started Wednesday morning, after a threat was made inside the school during classes on Tuesday.
Superintendent Russell Johnston would not go into detail about the threat but told 22News that because of its nature, the school had to take extra security precautions. Classes resumed as normal on Wednesday and Johnston said that students are safe.
Right now the school is working in close collaboration with the West Springfield Police. Johnston said they do have suspects but would not release any more information. He also told 22News that they've increased police presence inside the school, Wednesday.
Parents say they received an automated message from the school on Tuesday night, that briefly explained how there was a security issue and their students' backpacks would be checked in the morning.
West Springfield High School has a total of 1400 students.
