SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A 26 year-old woman and the estranged father of her children are dead in what Springfield police say was a murder suicide.
Around 1:30 A.M. Friday, Springfield Police Capt. Thomas Trites told 22News that 27 year-old Anthony Brown broke into 108 Wellington Street through the back door. The residence was the home of the mother of his two children, 26 year-old Julie Treadwell.
Trites says that on the home’s second floor, Brown was confronted by a 28 year-old man who was a friend of Treadwell’s. A struggle ensued between the two, and the friend tried to escape through the window, at which time he was shot in the arm. Trites says Brown then shot the man in the shoulder after he got out the window.
According to Trites, Brown then fatally shot Treadwell, before turning the gun on himself.
Treadwell’s friend, has serious injuries and is at Baystate Medical Center, but is expected to survive, Trites says. His name is not being released.
Treadwell’s death marks the fourth homicide of 2013 in Springfield.
