Tips for parking at the St. Patrick's Day parade

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's the second largest St. Patrick's parade on the east coast.

The streets of Holyoke will overflow with more than 400,000 parade spectators, but there will also be more than 100 police officers from the area to make sure everyone stays safe.

Holyoke Police urge people to be considerate of others, not to park illegally or block driveways, don't overindulge, and don't hand out or throw items during the parade.

Also, pace yourself, these may all seem like common sense, but police say if you see an issue you should flag an officer down.

They hope that won't have to be the case.

“We'd prefer we don't have to deal with those issues, this is definitely a day that people come out, we're expecting good weather, it’s a great family event.  That's why people want to come out and have a good time, it's a family event,” Holyoke Police Lt. Matthew Moriarty said.

For those going to the Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race there's new parking available this year.

Shuttle services will start at Holyoke Community College at 9am and will run through 5pm.
