WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Construction of West Springfield's new high school reached a milestone on Monday.

The topping off celebration signifies that workers have fastened the last steel girder to the building. Completion of the 105 million dollar high school is still more than a year away. Mayor Greg Neffinger told 22News he'll miss the old high school.

“I graduated from the high school, my oldest daughter graduated from here and my youngest daughter is a senior right now,” Greg Neffinger told 22News.

The new high school is scheduled to open its doors in February of 2014.
