SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Traffic was backed up on 91 South right through downtown Springfield just after 7:30 this morning.

At least 6 cars had flat tires after an expansion joint in the highway right near Exit 4 shifted.

State Police Sgt. Alan Joubert told 22News that state police had to re-direct traffic around the problem as they waited for a crew from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to arrive to fix it.

That work has been completed and traffic is returning to normal.
