HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Halloween had to be postponed following last October’s snowstorm, and it is being postponed again in at least two western Massachusetts communities.
In Holyoke and Monson, trick-or-treaters are being told to hold off on the holiday tradition until the weekend, as the region continues to feel the effects of what once was Hurricane Sandy.
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse has ordered trick-or-treating moved to Saturday night, November 3. A statement from Teresa Murphy-Romboletti, the Mayor’s Executive Assistant, says that they are concerned about tree limbs and debris still around. Despite the general postponement, trick-or-treaters will be encouraged to come to City Hall during the day Wednesday from 10:30 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
In Monson, the Board of Selectmen is having trick-or-treating moved to Sunday evening from 3:00 to 5:00. Monson saw fairly substantial power outages from Sandy, as high winds knocked down trees and power lines.
At this time, other communities have not announced plans to postpone trick-or-treating.
