HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Halloween has been delayed in Monson and Holyoke.
As Monson grapples with power outages from Monday's storm, Holyoke officials were concerned about inclement weather.
The possibility of rain is in the forecast for Wednesday night.
"We didn't want anyone to miss out on Halloween this year, it's best for everyone's safety just to get past the storm, push it until Saturday. The long range forecast looked better for Saturday," said Holyoke Police Chief James Neiswanger.
Some parents said they didn't think it should be postponed.
"I think it should be on Halloween. It's supposed to be on October 31st," said Jessica Feliciano.
Others agreed that it would be safer to have it when the weather is better.
"It's better to be safe than sorry," said Samuel Velez who has three kids.
Police will put additional resources on the streets Saturday.
Chief Neiswanger reminds people to trick or treat in groups with an adult, use a flashlight or reflective tape so drivers can see you, walk, don't run to houses, and drivers, slow down.
Holyoke will hold Halloween on Saturday night.
Kids will be able to trick or treat in Monson Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
