SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police arrested two men from Redding, Pennsylvania who allegedly stole from a U.S. Post Office Mailbox in front of 914 State St.

Sgt. John Delaney told 22News 21-year-old Miguel Perez and 27-year-old Redhames Santos face multiple charges like larceny over $250 and breaking into depository.

Sgt. Delaney said police officers were called to the intersection of State St. and Andrew St. in Springfield just after 1 a.m. Monday morning. When officers arrested Perez and Santos, the two men were carrying multiple envelops. And near the mailbox, police found a broken broom handle with a shoe lace attached to it, which may have been used by Perez and Santos to fish out envelops from the mail depository.

Later, police found multiple money orders all addressed to different people, as well as cash, in the suspects’ coat pockets.
