Two suspicious fires on Locust Street

Both brick buildings are vacant

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield firefighters say a fire at a vacant building on Locust Street Sunday night was deliberately set.

Aide to the fire commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News it happened just before 6 Sunday night at 252 Locust Street.

Firefighters were able to quickly put it out, but it's becoming a scary trend in the neighborhood.

Just this past Tuesday Springfield firefighters put out another fire at a vacant building just a few doors down at 258 Locust Street .

There are several large brick buildings on the street; while these two are vacant, several others are occupied.

Leger said the cause of that fire Tuesday also looked suspicious.
