SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The stars and stripes were vividly displayed at cemeteries throughout Western Massachusetts like at St. Michael's Cemetery in Springfield and the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
Families had made certain to honor loved ones who had served their country in wartime.
Dan Kneeland is the Veterans Graves Officer for the town of East Longmeadow.
“Flagging the graves an honor that we do those who gave their lives and served. Once they passed away, I'm very honored to place flags on the graves every year,” said Dan Kneeland.
Dan Kneeland thanked families who were thoughtful enough to observe Veterans Day by placing a flag at the graves of loved ones.
