LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) - One local company is celebrating and rewarding their employees for helping to improve their safety record.

Meredith-Springfield Associates Incorporated on Moody Street in Ludlow gave away a trip to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas to one lucky employee. The reward is part of a huge “thank you” after the plastics company invested in improving it's safety record five years ago.

“When your employees come to work everyday because they aren't sick or injured, it's been a morale booster for us and from the business side of things,” President and CEO Mel O’Leary said. “It's made our workman's comp rates plummet.”

According to the Department of Labor, every day, 12 people go to work and never return because of fatal workplace accidents. More than three million people are injured on the job every year.
