WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - February 14th: a day colored with red and pink, flowers and chocolates, Hallmark cards, stuffed animals and a reservation for a night out on the town. It's a date some really look forward to.
"I love Valentine's Day--it's one of my favorite days. It's the one day you can't be mad at anybody and one day to just: be happy", described John Thornton of Springfield.
But then there are those who are indifferent...
"You kind of fall into the social realm of it and hype of it. But now that I'm a little older and wiser it's just--a day....I don't hate it, and I don't love it", Angela Mitchell of Springfield told 22News.
The same holds true for Carlos Garcia of Amherst. "It depends on the mood you're in when you wake-up. That's the way I look at it. Today I woke up fine, so I'm happy...I guess Valentine's Day will be a good day", said Garcia.
Many people say though that there are expectations that come along with the holiday--whether you like it or not.
"I'd say it's a holiday more appreciated by the women than the men. It's a day where your girlfriend expects you to buy her flowers, a nice card, and take her out to dinner...show her how much you love her-kind-of-thing", said John Theocles of Springfield.
Most couples feel it's a day they have to acknowledge.
"I have to like it because my girlfriend likes it and she is expecting present and everything, and that's why I care", Maggie Gutierrez of Springfield told 22News.
So whether you're single or taken, believe in love or not, one thing for certain is: it's nearly impossible to escape the day.
