WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The economy may be slowly improving, but shoppers aren't ready to spend big on Valentine's Day just yet.

The average person will spend around $130 this February 14th. That is up just four dollars from last year.

The National Retail Federation said more than half of gift givers will buy candy, and another third will give flowers. 22News stopped by Durocher Florist in West Springfield, where they are already busy preparing for their biggest day of sales.

“Tons of people in the store,” owner Peter Soule said. “We'll probably do between 5 and 600 deliveries on Valentine's Day and up to 200 the day before Valentine's Day.”

Soule told 22News that he recommends people place their orders early.
