HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Saying that a casino in Springfield would have a “severe” impact on Holyoke businesses, Mayor Alex Morse announced support for a proposal to bring a resort-style casino to the city on Monday morning.

Morse, who ran for Mayor on an anti-casino platform back in 2011, said that he still remains opposed to casino gambling in principle, and does not think that a casino in Holyoke will be the answer to all of the city’s problems.

Still, a loud group of protestors gathered outside the Mayor’s office during his news conference, and expressed their disapproval for the mayor’s change in position.
