SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Senator Elizabeth Warren was in Springfield Tuesday afternoon to open a new office in the city.

More than 100 people, including Congressman Richard Neal (D-Springfield) welcomed the freshman senator at her new office at the old Federal Building at 1550 Main Street. Many of those in the crowd were local legislators, something that Warren joked about during her remarks.

"I also want to thank each of the senators and reps standing behind me, each one of you- save one- were an enormous help during this campaign," Warren joked. She was referring to State Rep. Don Humason (R-Westfield), who had supported her GOP opponent, Sen. Scott Brown.

Neal said that the office's opening shows that she is keeping her campaign commitment to have a presence in western Massachusetts.

Later in the afternoon, Warren was expected to make an appearance in Pittsfield.

The Cambridge Democrat defeated Sen. Brown in November, receiving strong support in western Massachusetts; carrying Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire Counties.
