SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - WMECo is closely monitoring the winter storm that has already arrived bringing rain and snow showers into the region.

In an email sent to 22News, WEMCo is expecting the storm to last 48 hours, bringing more rain, snow, and gusty winds, with the brunt of the snow expected Thursday night.

WMECo is prepared to safely and quickly respond to possible wind damage and related power outages across its service area.

Customers should call 1-877-OK-WMECO to report an outage or contact the company online at www.wmeco.com .

Remember to take precautions, making sure storm kits are stocked and ready in case the power goes out. Some items to include:

  • Flashlights with spare batteries
  • A battery-operated radio or TV
  • First-aid kit and medications
  • Canned, freeze-dried or dehydrated foods
  • A manual can opener
  • Bottled water
  • Baby or pet supplies
  • Prescription medications

WMECo also reminds all customers that while back-up emergency generators can be very useful during power outages they can also be dangerous if installed or operated incorrectly.
