WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A 41 year-old man is being treated for burns to his throat following a Tuesday morning fire at a house in West Springfield.

Fire Chief William Flaherty told 22News that three people were inside the home at 112 Garden Street when the fire started around 5:00 A.M.

One of the people inside the house, a 10 year-old boy, was checked out at the hospital, but is okay. There was initially concern about him being burned in the ear.

The boy’s father has been transferred out of the area for treatment of the burns to his throat.

Another man inside the house was not injured.

Flaherty said that the fire was apparently caused by a cat, who knocked down a smoldering cigarette out of an ashtray.
