Western New England student dies during intramural basketball game

George Papadoliopoulos, 20, died Sunday night

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Western New England University student died Sunday night after collapsing during an intramural basketball game.

Western New England Spokesman David Stawasz told 22News George Papadoliopoulos, 20, of Hanover, New Hampshire, collapsed during an intramural game on the college's campus Sunday night.  Campus Police performed CPR until paramedics arrived.  Papadoliopoulos was rushed to Baystate Medical Center where he later died.

Stawasz said there was no immediate information available about the student's cause of death or whether he suffered from any type of pre-existing condition.

Papadoliopoulos was a sophomore at Western New England University, majoring in biomedical engineering.

Stawasz says grief counselors are available for family, students and staff who have been impacted by this tragedy.
