WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Wednesday night was just like any other night for kids in Monson and Holyoke. Halloween festivities were postponed because of weather concerns.
It's the second year in a row that kids in Holyoke and Monson had to rearrange their Halloween festivities. All the other western Massachusetts kids who suffered indoors last year made up for lost time Wednesday night.
For kids in Westfield this year, dressing up on the real Halloween night was a treat enough.
“All kinds of costumes. Everything from mortal combat to princesses to brides to gruesome scary creatures . All kinds of stuff,” said Heather Torrone, who was giving out candy.
The storm last year kept kids inside in Halloween and it was the same story for many this year because of Hurricane Sandy. But kids in Westfield took full advantage of being able to trick or treat on Halloween night.
“Last year I was so sad because I thought we were going to be able to go out and I got all ready and I had a vampire costume all ready and I didn't get to go out so I was sad,” said Tyler Allen.
But even after an off-year, this family still plans to ration the goods.
“First we keep them in our bags for a while then we put them in a bucket and if there's still some left over we just throw the rest away,” said Devon Fillian.
“The rule is that by Christmas since we get other things at Christmas our candy goes in the trash plus it would probably be bad by then,” said Katelynn Fillian.
Kids in Monson and Holyoke will still get their share of candy, but Westfield trick-or-treaters were just excited to be out on the real night.
“I'm feeling excited happy and good,” said Courtney Pecor.
Kids here in Holyoke were invited to visit city hall this afternoon for candy, and they'll trick or treat around town this Saturday. Monson trick-or-treaters will get their turn on Sunday.
