Survey says most prefer the cash

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Would you rather have a holiday bonus or have an office holiday party?

A new survey by the career site glassdoor.com says that more people would rather take the cash. Two-thousand Americans with full-time jobs were polled.

Seventy-three percent reported that they would rather ditch the holiday party and get a bonus instead, while only five percent said that they would prefer the experience of socializing with their colleagues.

Ned Hubbard of West Springfield told 22News that he thinks the party would be preferable in the long run.

“I'd probably take the party, because you're going to spend the bonus in a day. The party is going to have some memories,” Hubbard said.

Douglas Nickerson of Feeding Hills, however, agrees with the majority.

“I'd rather have the holiday bonus- that way I can have my own Christmas party with the friends and family I'd want to have there,” Nickerson said.

Though we may all have a preference, it doesn’t seem like many of us have a choice. More than 80% of companies are planning on holding a holiday party this year. That’s up from 68% last year.
