Biggest percentage increase in Hampshire County

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It continues to be a buyers market in Western Massachusetts real estate.

January sales are up, but prices are down, according to the Realtor Association of Pioneer Valley. Overall, Pioneer Valley single family house sales jumped 28 percent last month compared to January of 2010.

Across the region, the median price dipped almost six percent.

  • Hampden County sales were up 14 percent, year over year.
  • Hampden County prices slipped 7 percent.
  • Franklin County sales were up 46 percent in January. Franklin County Prices slipped 3.6%
  • Hampshire County saw the biggest increase in both sales and prices.

72 "closed sales" translates into a 63 percent increase over January of last year. Hampshire County prices actually increased almost 5 percent.

January's median price for a single family home in the Pioneer Valley was $179,000, down from $190,000 in January of 2010.
