SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police say that a woman used her high heeled shoe to attack an officer that had earlier struggled to get her to leave a downtown bar.

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Maxine Romano, 23, of Enfield, Connecticut is charged with trespassing and assault and battery on a police officer following the incident on Monday night.

According to Delaney, officers were called to the MVP Bar at the Sheraton Hotel around 10:30 P.M. for a report of a woman who was drunk and acting belligerent. Bar employees told police that Romano was swearing loudly at patrons, and making fun of other customers.

The officers tried to make her take a cab home, but Delaney says she told the police she’d take the cab if they paid for it. She then swore at them, and wouldn’t calm down.

Officers arrested her for trespassing, and she allegedly kept telling them that she owned a tanning salon, and would “have their jobs by morning.”

When they arrived at the police station, Delaney says the officers tried to help Romano sit down because she was having difficulty standing up. It was then that she allegedly went after one of the officers with her high heel- driving the shoe into his leg and leaving him with a cut.

The officer’s injury was minor.

Romano was arraigned Tuesday in Springfield District Court.
