Woman severely burned in fire dies

Fire victim identified as Aleida Santiago, 51

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The woman who was severely burned in the fire in Holyoke has died.

Holyoke Fire Lt. Thomas Paquin told 22News 51-year old Aleida Santiago died from her injuries Tuesday afternoon.

Fire fighters were called to Elmwood Towers on South Street around 8:30 Monday morning.

A second person living in the apartment, 67 year old Donald Basile, was treated for smoke inhalation.

Lt. Paquin said smoking materials is believed to be the cause of the fire, but investigators have not made their final ruling.
