HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - There was a lot of work going on Monday at the state’s Green High-Performance Computing Cente r, which is being built at the site of a former industrial plant in downtown Holyoke.
Once completed, this facility will support the computing needs of five of the state's most research-intensive universities, including UMass, MIT, and Harvard.
Monday, crews were hard at work installing the cabinets that will house the data machines and computers at the facility.
Will Tripp, a construction foreman for Sullivan McLoughlin gave 22News an idea of just how much equipment is going into this center.
“The cabinets that we've brought in- I believe there are 420 cabinets that are on site for the current configuration-- that doesn't include the expansion that they're planning,” Tripp said.
Once the cabinets are installed, the individual colleges and universities that will be working out of the facility will come-in and install their own computers.
The computing center is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
