SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Visitors at the Basketball Hall of Fame took a chance at breaking a world record.

Back in April, 571 people at Iowa State University set the record for the world's largest game of "Knockout".

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno took the first shot in the attempt to break that record.

The sixteen year old who eventually won the "Knockout" game spoke with 22News after his victory.

Michael Vanderzwaag says, “I'm actually visiting my grandmother in Amherst. We decided to come to Basketball Hall of Fame just for the day. I got in line with the other hundreds of people and after a little over an hour I was the champion. “

Marketing director for the Mass Mutual Center Marissa Skibbe told 22News they had just fewer than 200 participants so they didn't break any records.

But they'll give it another shot at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Basketball Championships.
