NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A tweet encouraging random acts of kindness in the aftermath of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting has gone viral and sparked a movement.
NBC News Correspondent Ann Curry shared #26acts soon after the Newtown school massacre. Curry says she wanted to honor the memory of the 20 children and six adults killed in the massacre.
The message was simple: do something nice for someone else.
Now, the phrase has become a trending topic on Twitter. The message has even urged followers to share pictures of their random acts of kindness.
People 22News spoke with say that it’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
“Those children are our children, and who knows who they reach in our close community. We are a state away,” said Ezzell Floranina of Shutesbury. “It's so vital that we all see kindness in each moment.”
The #26Acts Facebook page gained more than 59,000 followers in the last week.
