71st Anniversary of Pearl Harbor observed in Easthampton

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts veterans gathered in Easthampton to remember those lost in Pearl Harbor.
Friday marks the 71st anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks.
Veterans from South Hadley, Easthampton and Northampton gathered for a ceremony at the Pearl Harbor Veterans Memorial Bridge on Rt.5.
Southampton resident Edward Borucki was 21- years-old when a Japanese torpedo struck the ship he was on, killing 33 of his shipmates. Borucki is one of the few remaining survivors in western Massachusetts. “I'm here to recognize my 33 shipmates I lost on the USS Helena on Pearl Harbor the day of Infamy. It was a turning point for the war and the world.”
Erwin Brady of Florence told 22News, “My brother Joe was on the same ship with Ed Borucki at Pearl Harbor and was still on it when the ship got torpedoed.”
The Veterans Administration says more than 600 WWII vets die every day. 2,390 service members were killed on December 7th, 1941.
