Mean Streets: Lincoln Ave., Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - 22News is always working for you by highlighting mean streets in your neighborhoods.

Residents told us that Lincoln Avenue in Amherst is more like a highway than a back road.

Lincoln Avenue leads into UMass Amherst's campus, so it has a lot of traffic, and even though the speed limit is 30, 22News saw multiple cars were traveling at much higher speeds.

Holly Harris often walks her dog Sweet Pea on this street. She said that she fears for the safety of her pets. "It's really dangerous. The dogs could get off the leash or something and get hit by a car. It's really dangerous around here,” she said.

Harris added that speed bumps or even a sign that could track the speed at which people are travelling could help this area control this problem.
