NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The outpouring of support for the pets affected by the June 1st tornadoes continues.
The pioneer valley wellness alliance held a fundraiser, Friday night, to raise money for the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society.
The shelter was damaged in the tornado and has also become a haven for pets whose owners were affected.
Dr. Chris Decker, MD said, "I'm certainly an animal lover and I think everyone has a very soft spot in their heart for the animals, they are just as helpless as humans are in the aftermath of a tornado."
Candy Lash of the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society said, "We’ve seen a lot of happy reunions which have warmed all our hearts, but we're kind a operating on a two fold basis, caring for homeless animals and also caring for animals who will be reunited with their family as soon as possible."
Candy Lash said there were 300 displaced pets at the shelter at one point, now there are only about 2 dozen.
