NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Sojourner Truth, the 16th century Civil rights Pioneer and women's rights advocate, was honored in Northampton this afternoon.
Hundreds came to the Sojourner Truth statue in the Florence section of the city, where she lived for many years.
Born in slavery, she spent most of her life in the North fighting for social causes.

Kinaethia Tolson says, “Just give her honor, and give her as one of our ancestors. Just give her a memorial, She's very strong, powerful woman, I think that's something that has been completely ignored.”
The event that brought all these people together this afternoon was the 8th annual it’s not far from the house she lived in during her years spent in Western Massachusetts.
