UMass study shows sleep keeps you sharp

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - It's not uncommon to hear someone say they're going to “sleep on it” before making a big decision, but there is actually some science behind that statement.

Researchers at UMass Amherst have found evidence that sleep can make your sharper. They used two groups in their study; the first group had a normal night's sleep while the other group had to stay awake over night. They both had to play a card game that mimicked gambling. The group with the normal night's sleep had the most wins. They say this proves sleep is crucial in decision making.

Britney Rubziahler of Northampton told 22News that she agrees with the finding. "For me, I think it's good to get eight hours of sleep, possibly even a little bit more because I do believe it's better for the overall physical, mental, and emotional health," she said.

This study also had equal numbers of men and women participating, so they believe that sleep is vital for both genders.
