AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Hickory Ridge Golf Club employees came to work Monday to find that the grounds of the Amherst golf course had been vandalized.
Amherst Police Captain Christopher Pronovost told 22News that the incident happened during the early morning hours. Police believe a group of juveniles stole a cart from a neighboring apartment complex and drove it over to the course's 4th green, tearing it up.
Hickory Ridge groundskeeper Robert Ruszala says the suspects damaged the green and wrote obscenities.
“It's still a headache at this time of the year. July and August are very difficult times for a superintendent to grow grass. We'll also have to babysit those areas in the future, because those areas will dry out, so we'll have to water them on hot days,” he said.
Ruszala told 22News that this is the first incident involving vandalism this year, and it will cost them $250 to fix.
Amherst Police believe this is the work of a group of young kids, and they encourage anyone with information to call police.
