AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Amherst Police are stepping up patrols as part of a campaign to combat underage drinking.
Sergeant Todd Lang told 22News officers will be concentrating their efforts in areas of town that have historically experienced high incidents of alcohol law violations.
Lang says the goal of the initiative is to improve the quality of life for those living in these areas.
Officials will patrol in cruisers, on bikes and undercover.
"I think that will be pretty much really helpful because the situation has got to be under control more", says Eman Salah, student and teacher at UMass.
"I think students are always going to be able to find ways to get alcohol out there in their communities and just have fun", says Byron Georgelis, student at UMass.
The mobilization will run from August 30th through September 30th.
