AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Thousands of UMass Amherst students witnessed the making of a world record tonight.
It was the highlight of the school's Labor Day barbecue, when an official from the Guinness Book of World Records nodded his head to approve the World's Largest Seafood Stew. 6,656 pounds of seafood, bacon, potatoes, vegetables and more were prepared in a 1 ton, 14 foot frying pan.
“I see a lot of unsuccessful record attempts, so to see it go off so well today, it took a while, was really amazing,” Michael Empric said.
“There are a lot of people here with their families. They've never seen or experienced something like this before,” Suzie Carvajal said.
Record-breaking has become somewhat of a tradition at UMass; last year they broke the record for worlds largest stir fry, and the year before for world's largest California roll.
