NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Sixty year-old Paul Gillis of Northampton is in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center, less than 24 hours after being hit by a car.

Northampton Police Capt. Scott Savino told 22News that Gillis was hit around 7:00 Sunday night by a car driven by 62 year-old Jamie Santos of Easthampton.

According to Savino, just before 7:00, police received a report of a possible break-in at a vacant building next to Wayside Auto Body at 376 Easthampton Road. Witnesses told police that they saw someone matching Gillis’ description leaving the area, when he was hit by Santos’ car.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the incident remains under investigation by the Northampton accident reconstruction team.
