SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) - Stand-alone electronic sales dropped over the holiday shopping season, and the smart buy was a phone.

Smart phones are taking the place of cameras, camcorders, and GPS devices as well as computers and televisions. These phones can be used for e-mail, text messaging, Internet research, paying bills, downloading music, and shopping.

The wave of the future may be one device that can run everything, including your car and home.

"It's limitless as to what these phones can do, because they're really little computers that do everything,” Family Wireless owner Todd Demers said. “Tie all your communications and entertainment and work load into one little unit."

The Consumer Electronics Show takes place in Las Vegas this week, and smart phones are expected to take the lead in interest and sales.
