NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The New Year’s Eve celebrations started early in Northampton Monday.

As early as 1:00 in the afternoon, the family parade marched through the streets of downtown Northampton to the beat of drums and the rhythm of hula hoops.

The " OffBeat Drumming Ensemble and Hooping Harmony" lead the parade with parents and children from the area enjoying the start of the afternoon and evening activities, which happen early enough for the whole family to get involved.

“It's really good for the kids so they can enjoy New Year's with their parents or grandparents before it gets too late,” Don Miller of Sturbridge said.

The parade kicked off an afternoon filled with performances, singing, and dancing; leading to the fireworks display at 6:15 P.M., and the ball raising at midnight.
