EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - People in Western Massachusetts took part in President Barack Obama's National Day of Service today.
Members of the Easthampton Democratic Committee spent their day volunteering at whatever needed to be done at the town's community center.
The volunteers told 22News, the work they did brought them deep satisfaction, “I do a lot of volunteering, I belong I belong to the Red Cross, this just gave me something to do, and I can help give back to the community,” Said Elaine Wood of Easthampton.
Anna Morrel works at the Easthampton Community Center. She feels this volunteer project will help the Center's young people appreciate the value of the national day of service, ”I work with a group of children and I have them volunteering once a month. These kids really enjoy it and get a lot out of that,” Said Anna.
Raymond Drewnowski, Chairman of the Easthampton Democratic Committee told 22News, “We're putting food in bags, toys for children and organizing some rooms to play a part in the inauguration on a local level.”
Nearly three dozen volunteers spent part of their day putting things in place at the Easthampton Community Center.
Even though not all of the volunteers live in Easthampton, they all wanted to be part of this national volunteer day.
