Girl Scouts visit Wistariahurst Museum to learn about good manners

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Good manners mean as much today as they did during America's Gilded Age at the turn of the 20th century.

Girl Scouts from the Hampshire County town of Ware, took home that message from Wistariahurst , the center of Holyoke society more than 100 years ago.

The former home of the legendary Skinner family is now a museum. On Monday, the Girl Scouts learned the traditions of what was known then as polite society.

"The part I liked most was when we were learning about the dinner table and what to do," said Lindsey Jackson of Ware.

Andrea Borelli of Ware says she enjoyed learning about manners. " There are other manners I didn't even know about," said Borelli.

Wistariahurst Museum is often the home for community programs that introduce new generations to a lifestyle of long ago.
