GOSHEN, Mass. (WWLP) - Another drowning has taken place here in Western Massachusetts.
This time, at the Upper Highland Lake in the Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest in Goshen. The town is just north of Northampton, and sits next to Cummington and Williamsburg.
A canoe carrying three men capsized Saturday night, around 7:30 PM. Two of the men were able to swim to shore, however one did not make it.
The Northwestern District Attorney's Office told 22News the drowning victim is 49 year-old Orlando Burgo of Westfield. His body was recovered from the waters late Saturday night.
The D.A.'s office believes the drowning was an accident. Burgo was reportedly not wearing a life jacket.
This is the third drowning death to take place here in Western Massachusetts within the past week.
