NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The Hampshire County Sheriff's Office is partnering with local businesses to help evacuees in New Jersey.
This is the second collection drive for the agency since the storm caused devastation in the Mid Atlantic states.
Crime Prevention Officer David Fenton told 22News that they have already transported close to $10,000 worth of goods to victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey.
Still, Fenton says Wednesday’s storm displaced one thousand evacuees in Freehold, New Jersey.
“The concern now is because of the storm that's hit and the lack of power they have. They have some generators, they need generators, they need cords, external extension cords to power up electricity for them,” Fenton said.
The Northampton Fire Department has volunteered to be a drop-off site. The agency is looking for work gloves, warm hats and external extension cords. They are hoping to ship this batch of items by next Tuesday.
