HUNTINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - People in the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts are helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy this weekend.

Huntington Firefighter John McVeigh spent the weekend accepting donations of food, water and other necessities. McVeigh told 22News he's been in contact with firefighters in the stricken areas.

McVeigh said, “I spoke with the Staten Island Fire Department. They're in desperate need of cleaning supplies, stuff like that. There are three shelters open down there. They're looking for food, it's the biggest thing right now that they need.”

John McVeigh said just as soon as Hilltown donations fill his 24-foot trailer, he'll drive to Staten Island with his relief supplies.
