NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The Morgan Horse Show trots into Northampton and with it comes big money for the city and surrounding towns.
Organizers say the New England Morgan Horse Show is the longest running in the world. And with that title comes the popularity.
600 horses took over the grounds of the Three County Fairgrounds, and Susan Colleton says there are at least 5 people traveling with every horse. Colleton says the thousands of people who travel into Northampton from all over the country stay for two weeks and take advantage of all Hampshire County has to offer.
Colleton told 22News, “The community, from hotels to if you were to go downtown at dinner time, it's like old home week. Because no matter what restaurant you're in, probably within two or three towns, you'll be visiting or sitting next to one of your Morgan friends.”
Colleton says the event can inject up to one million dollars into the local economy. The New England Morgan Horse Show ends this Sunday.
