NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The driver involved in an accident that killed a Hadley teenager this spring will not face criminal charges.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office says that an extensive investigation determined the incident was just an unfortunate accident.

18-year-old Harry Delmolino was struck by a car while riding his bicycle at Pleasant and Main Streets in downtown Northampton on May 19. He died four days later.

The D.A. says an investigation by the Northampton Police Department and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section concluded there was no criminal negligence.

Those who bike in the area say the accident has made them more alert.

“I'm riding my bike downtown very often and I'm always very careful,” Steve Simurda of Florence said.

“I think sometimes bicyclists kind of go through just really fast and aren't necessarily watching, but I think everyone needs to slow down,” David Foley of Northampton said.

The driver involved in the crash was 43-year-old Celso Avelar of Northampton.
