NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - First Night 2013 was the last First Night sponsored by the Northampton Center for the Arts .

The organization has been behind the New Year's Eve festivities for 28 years, but the director of the center told 22News, the event has outgrown the organization. So it's time to pass it on to someone else.

Many people told 22News they hope a different organization will take over so local artists will have a place to perform next year.

“Part of Pioneer Valley is a lot of musicians, artists,” said Steve Freiman of Conway. “So supporting each other is a wonderful thing. You know, it's a community. It's extending the community.”

There is no word yet on who will take over the popular New Year's event.
